Hundreds of local car enthusiasts participated in a memorial ride Sunday in memory of actor Paul Walker, the late star of the "Fast and Furious" series of movies. -- Text by Mike Morris, mmorris@ajc.com

The group met Sunday morning at Brook Run Park in Dunwoody and drove into downtown Atlanta, blinkers flashing, to salute Walker, who died Nov. 30 in a fiery California car wreck.

"Let us car enthusiasts and bikers alike unite to have a casual cruise around Atlanta to pay our respects for Paul," organizers wrote on the importatlanta.com website.

Drivers stopped at the Varsity early Sunday afternoon, jamming traffic on the southbound Downtown Connector as the long line of cars exited at North Avenue.

Production of "The Fast and the Furious 7," which had been filming at various metro Atlanta locations, is currently on hold.

Ride participants backed up on the exit ramp to North Avenue.
