Music superstar Prince was found dead at his Minnesota home on Thursday. He was 57.
Authorities responded to the report of a death at Prince's Paisley Park Estate recording studio Thursday morning.
TMZ first reported that Prince had died, and The Associated Press later confirmed the news.
Last week, Prince made an emergency plane landing after falling ill following a concert in Atlanta. He had been battling a bad case of the flu for weeks.
Prince was a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member who won seven Grammy Awards and sold more than 100 million records. His eclectic, imaginative musical style crossed multiple genres and earned him a legion of adoring fans.
Born in 1958 in Minnesota, Prince Rogers Nelson was named after his father, who went by the stage name Prince Rogers and who formed the jazz band The Prince Rogers Trio. Prince released his first album, "For You," in 1978. His 1984 album, "Purple Rain," was the 1985 Album of the Year, and Prince earned 32 Grammy nominations over his career.
