Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, who co-starred in "50 First Dates" and "The Wedding Singer," are teaming up again — this time in Atlanta.
The two are here working on a romantic comedy called “Blended.” The movie, about a guy and a gal who endure a terrible blind date only to meet up later at a resort for families, has been filming in north metro Atlanta, in the Buford and Lake Lanier areas.
It also stars Bella Thorne, Terry Crews, Chelsea Handler, Kevin Nealon and Joel McHale. By the way, McHale recently finished work on "A Friggin' Christmas Miracle," a comedy starring Robin Williams, Candice Bergen and Lauren Graham that filmed in Norcross and Stone Mountain.
Anyway, back to “Blended.”
"It's the most exciting thing that's happened here," said Buford native Danielle Maresca, who hung around while the project filmed at a Main Street pharmacy on Tuesday night. "Luckily, we showed up right as the crew was wrapping so it wasn't long before Adam emerged. He waved, thanked everyone for coming out, and then scooted out the back way."
Another side note: Sandler currently stars in "Grown Ups 2," an ensemble comedy featuring young Atlanta actor Nadji Jeter. The 17-year-old recently attended a screening of the movie at Atlantic Station.
“There were some scenes where we had some bloopers,” Jeter said afterward. “We were laughing hysterically. We had great chemistry on set.”
"Blended" also has been filming at a baseball field near downtown Buford (although those scenes have involved cricket, not baseball), and filmed recently at the Lawrenceville Hooters. It was great timing for the Atlanta-based chain, which had just hosted a viewing party for the "Miss Hooters International" pageant at the Akers Mill Road store in Cobb County. The top 11 pageant contestants, including winner Marissa Raisor, were part of the scene.
Sandler was spotted at the Mall of Georgia on Wednesday, where filming was to take place Friday night. Meanwhile Barrymore headed for every celebrity's favorite pizza joint: Antico. Like Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, Dave Koechner, Chris Rock, Jason Bateman, Ryan Reynolds, Gabrielle Union, Kirsten Dunst and Conan O'Brien before her, Barrymore decided to break bread with Antico owner Giovanni di Palma during her time in Atlanta, and left a nice message on a pizza peel.
“I love pizza so much it’s crazy,” the actress revealed in writing. “You guys rule.”
