Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville will open a new wing on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009. The museum opened in 2003, but the new section doubles its exhibition space and brings the total square footage up to 120,000.

The new section of the Booth Western Art Museum includes mostly contemporary art, which includes works by Andy Warhol and local artists.

"Looking Back" by artist Willem Volkersz is in the new section of the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville. In it, a man in neon looks out on a paint-by-number version of the romantic old West. "I think it's the perfect piece for us at this museum, " Executive Director Seth Hopkins said. "This is us today, looking back."

Marion Blackwell checked out the new portion of the museum. The section opens Oct. 10.

Volunteers visited the new section of the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville on Oct. 7, 2009. The new space was designed to seamlessly fit with the older section of the museum, which opened in 2003.

Seth Hopkins, executive director of the museum, tours a group of volunteers through the museum's new wing.

Dayla Brock, 9, of Rome, visited the Booth Museum with her grandmother and sister. They spent time in the children's area, toured the rest of the museum, then made plans to go back to the children's area again.

Laurel McLoud and Ron Henderson, both from Marietta, checked out the gift shop inside the Booth Museum.
