It’s been more than 20 years since she’s performed in her hometown, but Missy Elliott has not forgotten where she came from.

Elliott surprised students and staff at Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia on Friday, The Virginian Pilot reported.

She took selfies with students and teachers and toured the building to see how much it had changed since she attended the school.

Elliott visited for about an hour and she really left her mark, in the form of a $25,000 donation, according to the Pilot.

Elliott was in the area to perform at the weekend's Something in the Water music festival being held in Virginia Beach.
