Things got real on Monday’s episode of “The Real.”
In an at-home edition of the show, co-panelist Jeannie Mai opened up about her engagement to Atlanta rapper Jeezy.

Jeezy, whose given name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, proposed in March while the pair was self-isolating at his Los Angeles home. The rapper planned to pop the question during a scheduled trip to Vietnam, but with the coronavirus causing their plans to change, Jeezy brought Vietnam to them.
On “The Real,” Mai discussed the engagement, which she said was initially “so hard” to keep quiet.
“It was very surreal,” she began of the proposal occurring during quarantine.
Mai said the Vietnam trip was supposed to be a family vacation but instead, Jeezy filled the room with Vietnamese food and decor, taking her through the home filled with photos that the couple was superimposed into.

“It was so magical, ladies, I can’t describe it in enough detail for you,” said Mai, who has been married once before. “In true form to why I fell in love with J, he did exactly what I know him to do during a time where you would think life would stop... But J continued with life no matter what.”
“When it comes to marriage, it's not just the perfect moments when everything happens just right, it's really about those times — who are you, who is your character when things hit the fan,” she continued. “Who is your character when a pandemic hits? And to see him be the relentless, tenacious man I fell in love with, it puts a whole new meaning to this ring for me.”
Mai didn’t say when a wedding would happen, saying she and Jezzy are “enjoying the engagement.” She also admitted the couple is “eager” about their love.

Mai credited “The Real” for the beginning of their romance, as the two met on the talk show before beginning to date in November 2018. She admitted that as a woman who has been divorced, she got “jaded” about relationships.
“The thing I think that saved me is that I never gave up on love,” she said through tears. “I never gave up on love because love is so omnipresent and it’s so healing that the only reason why I recognize healthy love with J today, is because I took that time to love myself.”
