In a bow to the economic climate, Six Flags Over Georgia, one of metro Atlanta's biggest attractions, has dropped its season pass prices.

Passholders can make repeated visits to the park, which opens Feb. 28, for $49.99 — $20 less than in 2008. "We're presenting this offer to give more value to our guests this year," said Hela Sheth, a spokeswoman for the attraction.

The price puts season passes just $10 more than a single day pass.

The recession has forced many attractions to rethink pricing as consumers cut back. The Georgia Aquarium offered discounted tickets last fall to lure customers back who weren't ready to become season passholders and just about every attraction is looking for ways to lessen the impact on wallets.

The lower pass price comes as Six Flags' parent, New York-based Six Flags, saw attendance increase at its parks in the third quarter, but has struggled with its stock value, which is trading at 29 cents a share.

Sheth said season pass sales are up 255 percent from a year ago. Season passes to Six Flags' White Water property, which opens Memorial Day weekend, are up 121 percent. Those tickets are also $49.99. A two-park season pass for both Six Flags and White Water costs $79.99

By opening in February — the first time Six Flags Over Georgia has done so in its 42-year history — the park will have its longest operating season in 2009, Sheth said.

The big attraction this year will be Monster Mansion, the renovation of Monster Plantation, an indoor boat ride that was known for its animated characters.
