The West Georgia Spay Neuter Clinic marked its 15,000th surgery Wednesday, a milestone since opening its doors three years ago.

The clinic, run by the Carroll County Humane Society, provides affordable spay and neuter resources and free surgery for those unable to afford it.

Since opening the clinic, intake at the county animal shelter has dropped more than 32 percent, from 8443 animals in 2007 to a projected 5720 animals this year. This represents more than 3,300 animals saved from entering the high-kill county shelter, said Tina Buechner, Carroll County Humane Society president.

As part of fund-raising efforts this month, the clinic is offering nail trims, some half-price vaccines as well as other specials.

Bill Craig, a local bicycle enthusiast, is riding his bicycle almost 800 miles from Carrollton, Texas to Carrollton, GA, in 10 days to raise funds. People can attend an “End-of-the-Ride Party” at Pet Supplies Plus from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. There will be activities for kids, raffle prizes, food, rabies clinic, and animal-related demonstrations. More information and pledge forms for Craig's ride are available at local businesses and at www.C2CR2C.com.
