The UniverSoul Circus set up its tent in one of the Turner Field parking lots once again on Feb. 3. The first night of the traveling circus’ monthlong set of Atlanta shows was dedicated to “VIP” guests and included appearances from radio host Rickey Smiley and rapper Da Brat. But the celebrity appearances weren’t the best part of the show. It’s just as entertaining without the star power.

The show wasn’t perfect — the nearly hourlong intermission and time between sets ensured that the show didn’t move as smoothly as it could have — but it is a good family-friendly show if you’re looking to enjoy some live entertainment.

Here are five reasons why you should see the UniverSoul Circus before the circus tents come down at the end of the month.

1. Kids will be entertained from beginning to end. – Although the breaks between sets run long, the show will likely keep kids entertained during breaks. Dancers demonstrate current dance trends such as "Dabbin'" and the "Milly rock" and encourage the audience to join in. If you're willing to pay $10, you can ride a camel during intermission. And, during one break, giant balls are tossed around the audience, ensuring both parents and kids stay attentive to avoid getting hit. Even the rules are explained in an entertaining way. Dancers pretend to walk instead of running to the nearest exit in case of an emergency and act as if they are putting out a cigarette with their feet to demonstrate the no smoking policy.

2. The cast is diverse. – Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, China, South Africa and elsewhere, the cast is not just entertaining. It is diverse. While diversity has been the topic of conversation in entertainment for quite some time now, especially with the recently announced Oscar nominations, it is great to see a live show that celebrates diversity.

3. UniverSoul Circus doesn't just have elephants, there is an entire skit dedicated to cute dogs! – It's nearly impossible to refrain from smiling during the The Olate Dogs' set. The dogs jump rope, jump over hurdles while walking on their hind legs and ride scooters in the adorable set.

4. The crowd is just as entertaining as the cast. – The UniverSoul Circus encourages a lot of crowd interaction. And the participants are just as entertaining as the cast! During one segment, host Lucky Malatsi asked audience members to mimic his dancing to songs such as Beyonce's "Get Me Bodied" and "Single Ladies." Whether participants lacked rhythm or were natural dancers, it made for an entertaining set. Later in the show, four participants represented the "old school" and "new school" and were tasked with serenading each other. When one "old school" participant hit a split, his girlfriend decided to outdo him, snatching off her wig. Future attendees likely won't get the same participants, but there are sure to be entertaining characters in every audience. This is Atlanta, after all.

5. There is a Soul Train Line – You can't have a soul circus without a Soul Train line. And, what better way to celebrate Black History Month than by paying homage to Don Cornelius' iconic show? The crowd gets in on this fun competition, too.
