Parents in the Atlanta and Fulton County districts can now declare their candidacy for a spot on their child’s school governance team.
In both Atlanta Public Schools and Fulton County Schools, governance teams made up of parents, staff and community members work with principals to provide input on budgets, strategic plans and other decisions impacting that campus.
In Atlanta, the groups are called Go Teams. APS recently began accepting names of those who wish to join their school’s team for a two-year term.
The window to declare candidacy is open through Feb. 28. Voting will take place in April to select each school’s team members. Parents and staff at the schools determine who their representatives are.
APS parents who want to serve must have a child enrolled at the school for at least one year of the two-year term and may not be on staff at the school.
In Fulton County Schools, parents have until March 2 to declare their interest in a spot on a school governance council. Voting in Fulton will take place from March 23-30.
