Atlanta Public Schools will provide COVID-19 tests for students and employees Thursday and Friday, before the district resumes in-person classes next week.

The district will offer surveillance testing at nine sites from noon to 5 p.m. on both days. This week, APS students are learning virtually because of a surge in COVID-19 cases.

In a statement, APS said that this week’s testing will provide “valuable data that may be used for contact tracing as the district prepares to reopen schools for in-person learning on Monday.”

Participation on both days is voluntary for employees and students.

Since September, the district has required employees to be tested twice a week as part of its surveillance testing program. Staffers were also tested Monday as part of that effort.

Students can voluntarily participate in weekly surveillance testing, which is offered at each school. The district is urging parents to submit a consent form to allow their student to be tested regularly.

Testing will be available Thursday and Friday at these sites:

Benjamin E. Mays High School

Booker T. Washington High School

Carver Early College

John Lewis Invictus Academy

Maynard Jackson High School

Midtown High School

North Atlanta High School

South Atlanta High School

Therrell High School
