Atlanta Storm Flood Damage
September 15, 2023 Atlanta: Along Parsons Street near Lawshe Street through Clark Atlanta University, so much mud was left behind that it looked like a dirt road as flooded cars remained after the water receded Friday morning, Sept. 15, 2023. Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said the storm parked over the city, dropping so much rain so quickly in an area predominantly covered in pavement, and the water simply had nowhere to go. Strong and quick-moving thunderstorms plowed through downtown Atlanta on Thursday afternoon, flooding roads, impacting college students and prompting the evacuation of one of the city’s premier attractions. According to city officials, rain gauges show that about three hours’ worth of rain came down in just 15 minutes in some areas of downtown Atlanta. (John Spink / John.Spink@ajc.com)
