Private Quarters: Modern farmhouse in Milton

4,800 square feet, five bedrooms, five-and-a-half baths

Kristen and Sean-Michael Yonson decide to forego the traditional foyer in the Milton farmhouse they built in 2015. Instead, a set of three double-doors opens from the porch directly into the living room. The glass-paned doors and open floor plan create a light-filled space in their 4,800-square-foot family home. The wide front porch is one of homeowner Kristen Yonson's favorite features of her new-build home in Milton. Three sets of doors lead off of the front porch into the Yonsons' living room.

Sliding barn doors, painted in Sherwin-Williams Dorian Gray and custom-made for Kristen and Sean-Michael Yonson's home, separate the hallway from the home office. "We talked about the barn doors as an element in the architecture long before we installed them, " says Kristen. "You have to have the wall space to install them. We built those off a picture we had found."

A cement fireplace with a rustic wooden mantle from Distinctive Building Materials forms the focal point of Kristen and Sean-Michael Yonson's living room. Just as important to the room, however, are the sofas in natural linen from RH Outlet, which Kristen describes as comfortable and resilient for a family. Rounding out the room are white chairs from Pottery Barn Outlet.

A wire basket on wheels offers portable storage for blankets, or items such as toys.

A rustic coffee table from Outrageous Interiors is in keeping with homeowner Kristen Yonson's modern farmhouse style. In the background, however, the garage door in the breakfast nook puts the emphasis on the modern. A table and chairs from RH Outlet and RH help bring the two looks together.

Carrera marble counters, Kingston oak 7-inch engineered wood flooring from Shaw and Timberlake shaker cabinets are the foundation for this open modern farmhouse kitchen in Milton. Tucked under the expansive island are kitchen stools from Four Hands.

The appropriately named "Rise and Fall Chandelier, " which Kristen Yonson purchased from Europe2You, adds a touch of age, color and interest to the white and gray kitchen.

Shiplap, matching the Sherwin-Williams Pure White walls and trim, adds texture to open shelving and forms a beautiful background for a display area in homeowner Kristen Yonson's kitchen.

A globe chandelier from RH Outlet dominates the dining room in Sean-Michael and Kristen Yonson's home. A 120-inch dining table and chairs from RH Outlet and RH allow large parties to dine in the open room, and a horse print from ArtAddictioninc.com is a nod to the Milton home's modern farmhouse style.

Pipe shelving in the study, by Jeff Neumann, provides organizational and industrial flair in Kristen and Sean-Michael Yonson's home. A long chandelier from Europe2You runs the length of the Yonsons' desk.

Le France tiles from Daltile conjure an older, French look in the downstairs guest bathroom of Kristen Yonson's Milton home. The geometric tiles also made the room a little more feminine. Yonson continued the use of grays and whites found elsewhere in the home for a clean, cohesive look.

A silver mirror from Z Gallerie is flanked by silver sconces in the downstairs guest bathroom. Quartz countertops from Precision Stoneworks provide stylish counter space.

Homeowner Kristen Yonson's two young boys needed space to play indoors and store their toys. The Yonsons' five-bedroom Milton home features a playroom for Cole and Connor, outfitted with a zinc armoire RH Outlet, a play table from RH, an Ikea sofa and a West Elm rug.

Sconces from RH Outlet flank the bed and provide plenty of light for nighttime reading in young Cole Yonson's room. A West Elm duvet and a coverlet from Target, in differing shades of gray, coordinate with the light gray walls and dark gray furniture, creating a crisp, well-ordered bedroom

A light-filled gallery runs the length of the upstairs. Simple adornments, like a bench from Outrageous Interiors and copper Rococo pendants, highlight the modern farmhouse's open, airy charm.

A paneled accent wall, painted in Sherwin-Williams Dorian Gray, and mirrored accents like the Horchow bedside dresser and mirrored headboard, add depth to the master bedroom. A gray and white rug from West Elm remains true to the color scheme and anchors the room, while cement pendant lighting from Four Hands creates a sense of symmetry.

The outdoor fireplace is a cozy gathering spot on the back porch of Sean-Michael and Kristen Yonson's Milton home. A mantle from Distinctive Building Materials, along with exterior lighting and fans by PDI Lighting bring the comfort and style of the home's interior outside.

Kristen and Sean-Michael Yonson's modern farmhouse sits on a 2-acre lot in Milton, giving the couple's young boys plenty of room to play. The cedar shake garage will age naturally.

This Milton home's galvanized steel roof meets the roof of the cedar garage, forming a backyard courtyard for Sean-Michael and Kristen Yonson's family. A cupola from TheCountryGentleman.com topped by a vintage horse weathervane from Queen of Hearts Antiques and Interiors overlooks the courtyard, around which the entire house was built.
