Chick-fil-A exec's Mableton home is meant to be enjoyed

This Mableton house owned by a Chick-fil-A executive has six bedrooms and comes with its own basketball court.

A Currey & Co. chandelier in the grand room draws attention to the great room ceiling, which was painted by Rosey Coffer to resemble wood beams. Kimberly Gangemi Interior Design updated the room, which previously had a white, black and dark gray color palette.

Homeowner Becky Matherne selected curly redwood for the handcrafted bar, working with Kelly Maxwell of Littlebranch Farm.

The dining table, chairs, mirror and breakfront are antiques that were purchased more than 40 years ago and were used in Becky Matherne's family home in Birmingham, Ala.

Ralph Lauren suede paint brings depth to the dining room walls. The breakfront and mirror are a longtime family pieces, purchased at an antique gallery in Birmingham, Ala.

The master bedroom now opens up to the new third-story deck off the Mableton home. General contractor John Hicks of J. Carpenter Homes added the deck, which is accessible through Pella French doors.

The master bedroom has a dropdown sitting area with a table from Becky Matherne's childhood home and chairs from AmericasMart Atlanta.

The western theme extends to the ceiling, with an iron orb chandelier from Ballard Designs. The basement's open spaces are conducive to hosting dozens of teens for Bible studies, Young Life and mission trip meetings.

The Mathernes desired a neighborhood and home where they and their boys could spend time with friends. Even in the kitchen, there's bar and island seating for teens and adults to hang out.

The kitchen island has a gas cooktop and granite countertops, and the cabinets and pendant lights have traditional design.

Games are often on in the basement, which is decorated with dice and triangular footstools from Grandin Road. Kimberly Gangemi Interior Design assisted the homeowners in the renovations.

Sunlight streams into the home, along with friends in the Vinings Estates neighborhood and from Whitefield Academy. The heavy Georgian-style trim above the doorway is found elsewhere in the traditional home.

Western decor and reclaimed wood from a barn creates a casual vibe in the renovated basement. The Mathernes worked with Kimberly Gangemi Interior Design.

The spacious basement was able to hold a gym for the busy family and their sons, who play sports for Whitefield Academy.

An ottoman (from AmericasMart Atlanta) is layered with a stable blanket, and a tray decorated with a star that fits with the basement's western theme.

Both sides of the Matherne's family are represented in a gallery wall of old photos.

A Steve Penley painting - part of the Montage collection - was purchased at the 2013 Whitefield Academy Auction. The painting was from Vinings Gallery.

The back of the built-in bookshelves was highlighted with Ralph Lauren suede paint, which makes the white molding and decorations stand out.

For generations, the grand piano had been in Becky Matherne's family. The 1901 Conover mahogany upright piano was originally purchased by her great grandparents and was restored in the 1960s.

Pella French doors curve around the back of the nearly 7,500-square-foot home, which was built by John Wieland. The doors were added when portions of the home was remodeled by John Hicks of J. Carpenter Homes in 2014.

The family marks their travels, including international student mission trips, on a wall map.

Some of the furnishings have a family connection. The high-back embroidered chair was purchased by Becky Matherne's parents at an antique gallery in Birmingham, Ala. The marble-top table is a family piece from her great aunt and uncle's home. The painting is an original Greig Steiner, an artist and family friend from Estes Park, Colo.

To the right of the antique piano, the painting was purchased by Rich Matherne's mother on the Amalfi Coast. The chair was crafted by Rich Matherne's great grandfather.

Many of the crosses filling a wall in the keeping room were acquired on mission trips in Latin America. Above the fireplace and flat screen TV, the wall is painted with Ralph Lauren suede paint.

Rich and Becky Matherne moved into their Mableton home in 2013, with sons John and Robert, who attend Whitefield Academy, and Ellie, their Goldendoodle. Rich is vice president of operations, Southeast region for Chick-fil-A; Becky is a former senior vice president, private bank, at Bank of America and president of the Whitefield Parent Association.
