Seattle-based Trident Seafoods will build a processing plant in Carroll County, creating 175 jobs, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Wednesday.

Trident, which also harvests seafood in the Pacific Northwest, said it will invest $41 million to expand a former Chiquita food plant in Carrollton for its seafood operations, which will produce a variety and oven-ready frozen food products.

Trident will expand an existing 104,000-square-foot building in Carrollton by an additional 43,000 square feet. The project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014. Hiring will begin in 2014.

With a fleet of more than 30 vessels, Trident catches and processes wild Alaska salmon, cod, crab and pollock for retail and foodservice customers.
