The original Gerber baby turned 89 Friday.

Ann Turner Cook was the original model for the official Gerber baby logo that became the trademark in 1931 and hasn't changed since.

Cook's neighbor, Dorothy Hope Smith, sketched the charcoal image.

Cook went on to teach high school and college English, and is currently retired and following her passion of writing mystery novels.
