In August, Edie Falco won an Emmy Award for best actress in a comedy for her portrayal of Jackie Peyton in the Showtime television series “Nurse Jackie.”

Her character in the dark comedy is no Florence Nightingale. On one hand, Peyton is a highly competent nurse and correctly challenges doctors as she fights for her patients. But she’s also addicted to pain medication, cheats on her husband and regularly stomps all over the professional ethics line.
