Developer Brand Properties on Thursday announced plans to break ground this year on a new 12-story new medical office building in Midtown Atlanta that will be largely occupied by practices tied to Northside Hospital.

Northside Midtown Medical will rise at 13th and West Peachtree streets. The building is expected to open in 2018 and include primary care, cardiology, medical imaging and urgent care practices affiliated with Northside.

As part of the move, the project marks a stepped up presence for Northside in the booming Midtown area where it competes with hospitals including Piedmont and Emory University Hospital Midtown. Midtown’s skyline is dotted with cranes for apartment towers and the corporate headquarters of NCR.

“The continued growth of this market is incredible with more than 65,000 workers coming here every week day and more than 14,000 people choosing to make their home here,” Brand Morgan, CEO of Brand Properties, said in a news release. Add to that $2.8 billion in planned new development and you have a compelling case for one of the top hospitals in the country to establish a major foothold in Midtown.”

Northside operates hospitals in Sandy Springs as well as in Cherokee and Forysth counties.
