A Chicago-based insurance software company plans to expand its Atlanta offices and add 150 workers, the state and company announced Thursday.

Applied Systems, which opened an office in Buckhead in 2011, said it will lease about 21,000-square feet of space in Buckhead Tower near Lenox Square mall as part of the expansion. A company spokeswoman said in an e-mail that Applied Systems has about 50 employees in Atlanta, including executives, marketing and sales employees and product developers. The new jobs will be in software development roles.

“Today’s announcement is yet another example of how our financial technology community is thriving because Georgia has the highly skilled workforce and resources necessary to support its rapid growth,” Gov. Nathan Deal said in a news release. “I look forward to the high-quality jobs that this industry-leading company will bring to the area.”

Applied Systems, which has 1,200 employees in North America and the United Kingdom, serves 12,000 agencies and brokerages and 350 insurance firms, the news release said.
