The Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Atlanta next month plans to re-open the Polaris restaurant, the storied rotating attraction that closed about 10 years ago.

The blue-domed restaurant, long a symbol for the city, drew hungry diners and tourists to take in panoramic views of the city. The new Polaris will also rotate as it once did every 45 minutes, the hotel said in a Thursday news release.

The opening date is June 10.

“In its day, Polaris was a symbol of Atlanta’s tremendous cultural and economic growth,” Peter McMahon, the Hyatt’s general manager, said in the release. “Now Polaris is coming back as the city is buzzing with new projects, revived neighborhoods and unprecedented tourism.”

The hotel said the restaurant will source ingredients locally as well as from its rooftop garden. It also will get honey from its bee garden.

The Hyatt has spent tens of millions of dollars in recent years to renovate the iconic Atlanta hotel, which was designed by famed architect John Portman and opened in 1967.
