General Mills Inc., the maker of Progresso soups, Gold Medal flour and Trix cereals, is cooking up something else: A new distribution center in Social Circle the state says will create 112 new jobs.

Georgia state officials announced the project Tuesday, saying the 1.5-million-square-foot facility in Walton County is expected to begin hiring early next year.

The distribution center will service the Southeast. General Mills already is well-established in Georgia. In 1989, it opened a manufacturing plant in Covington.
