After losing sales in 2009, Gatorade is growing again and its turnaround is accelerating, according to trade journal Beverage Digest. So far this year, Gatorade, one of PepsiCo's largest beverage brands, has posted a 6.8 percent increase in sales volume. The hot summer weather in much of the U.S. probably helped Gatorade and the entire sports drink category, as Gatorade's rebound compensated for a weak first quarter.

Although Gatorade is performing better this year, it is still lagging the overall category and losing market share to Coca-Cola's Powerade brand. Gatorade accounts for about 76 percent of dollar sales in the category, and is typically priced higher than Powerade, according to Beverage Digest.
