What opportunities does The Home Depot offer?
Metro Atlanta residents have plenty of job opportunities in the area if they'd like to work for this company. In addition to many store locations, there's also the Marietta Technology Center and a call center in Kennesaw. And you'll find hundreds of jobs open at Atlanta's Store Support Center, Eric Schelling, said senior director of talent acquisition with The Home Depot's corporate office in Atlanta.
He described the large center as being like a miniature city – complete with a Starbucks, gym, dry cleaner, child care and other amenities.
Are any jobs in particular demand now?
The Home Depot has jobs in a wide variety of categories, including finance, outside sales, merchandise planner, records supervisors and store associates and managers.
"A big focus is on new technology that specifically relates to our online business," Schelling said, so if you're looking for a job related to this side of the company, you're likely to find plenty of openings.
What qualities is The Home Depot looking for in a future employee?
"I think an overall quality would be someone who's a game changer – someone who's inquisitive and wants to learn," Schelling said. The company looks for people who want to bring innovation and teamwork to the table, he added.
What's the hiring process like?
Search The Home Depot's career website for job openings by title and location. Afterward, a recruiter may contact you to gather more specific information. If you're interviewed, you may meet with one, two or more people from the hiring team.
Schelling said job candidates are viewed as the best possible consumers, and those applying for jobs at the store support center are given a gift card and tour. Interviewers will talk to them about their career development and possible growth within the company.
Starting a career at The Home Depot can open you up to endless possibilities, enabling you to move into many different positions at a wide variety of locations, he said.
In addition, The Home Depot owns blinds.com in Houston and Interline Brands in Jacksonville, Fla., providing even more career opportunities.
An applicant should be prepared to ask specific, provocative questions and not ask about things that could be learned from a simple internet search.
The majority of respondents at Glassdoor who interviewed at The Home Depot viewed their interview as a positive experience (66 percent), while 20 percent rated it as neutral and only 12 percent as negative. The interview's difficulty averaged a 2.3 rating, which puts it in the average range.
