Delta Air Lines wants to start flying directly between Orlando and Sao Paulo, Brazil, and has filed for regulatory approval to do so.

The airline will partner with GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes and the code-share alliance will serve 20 destinations within Brazil from Guarulhos International Airport.

Delta hopes to offer direct flights four times a week between Orlando and Sao Paulo, beginning Dec. 19 on a Boeing 767-300  plane.

Two years ago, Delta applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation to add more nonstop flights to Brazil from Atlanta and New York.

Delta offers more than 1,400 flights between the U.S. and the Latin America/Caribbean region.
