Building Materials Holding Corp.

• Provider of residential building products, including cabinets, decking products, engineered wood products, finish and framing hardware products, lumber products, and construction services to professional builders and contractors in North Carolina, Texas and western U.S.

Stock Building Supply Holdings Inc.

Atlanta-based Building Materials Holding Corp. is merging with Stock Building Supply Holdings Inc. of Raleigh, N.C. in a deal valued at $1.5 billion.

After the deal is completed, which is expected in the fourth quarter, BMC shareholders will own about 60 percent of the merged company and Stock Building Supply shareholders will own about 40 percent.

BMC Chief Executive Officer Peter Alexander will serve as CEO of the combined company, which will provide lumber, diversified building products and construction services.

The companies say they are benefiting from a strong housing market that is fueling construction projects.

“The combination of our two highly complementary platforms will enhance our ability to provide customers with best-in-class products and services across an expanded geographic footprint,” Alexander said in a statement.

The combined company will be based in Atlanta, with the main operating center in Raleigh. BMC and Stock Building Supply will retain their names in their local markets.
