The Buckhead outpost of Beverly Hall, a small, locally owned fine furniture chain, is closing.
The location at 2789 Piedmont Road, near the conclave of décor shops on Miami Circle, is a victim of the economy and competition from national rivals, said owner and president Jerry Hux. The Buckhead store has been in that vicinity for more than 50 years, he said. The company still has two stores in Roswell and another in Hilton Head, S.C.
The 64-year-old company started a private sale Tuesday to liquidate $6 million in home furnishings. The store will open to the public Friday, and Hux expects to finish liquidation by late October. Prices will be about 50 percent off manufacturers’ suggested retail prices, he said. Brand names include Henredon, Baker, Century and Ralph Lauren.
Hux said he is sad but also “energized” by the decision to close this location.
“I think it’s the right decision for our company and our employees,” said Hux. “It ensures we’ll be here for years to come.”
He said given the economy and size of his company, he has too much real estate in Atlanta, or 93,000 square feet. Hux said the company owns its Roswell property, and may consolidate into one location there by the end of the year.
Hux bought Beverly Hall from its founders 25 years ago. His son, daughter and daughter-in-law are now involved in the management of the 50-person, multi-million dollar company.
Hux said he doesn’t expect any layoffs from the store closure.
