The post office at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport will close Jan. 31 due to weak traffic, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

"We know that it really is pretty much an underutilized facility," said Postal Service spokesman Michael Miles. "It was too costly to operate given the amount of traffic it got."

It's the only location the Postal Service is closing at that time, Miles said.

Although travelers may not have gone to the airport to use the post office, using the airport post office to mail items back home was one of the options available to passengers caught with prohibited items in their carry-on bags at security checkpoints.
