Gaines was an afternoon host at Kix 106 in Memphis, also owned by Atlanta-based Cumulus Media. He will begin at Kicks on Sept. 5. with his show airing from 3 to 7 p.m.

He has more than 20 years of radio experience, working previously in Dallas and Detroit.

In June, Kicks shifted its staff, with Ali Mac switching places with long-time morning host Dallas McCade. Afternoon host CJ Lusk was moved to mornings and producer Jeremy Powell was cut. Cadillac Jack remained in place as the lead on the morning show.

Kicks in July had one of its strongest months in years in ratings, finishing as high as fifth place for the first time since April, 2011.

The station's annual Country Fair on September 23 features Darius Rucker and Randy Houser.
