Matt Knox, the night jock at Project 9-6-1 for four years, has left for (gasp!) management.
Yes, he is going to be a program director at a sister rock radio station in Tallahassee, Fla. X101.5, but he also gets to be the PM drive jock as well. That's similar to his former boss Chris Williams, who is program director and PM drive jock at Project.
In an email, Knox sent me this:
My last day at Project was EPIC, I mean what better honor for an Atlanta Native night jock than a live show at the Clermont Lounge for Shaffee and Jefe's Amp-Beaut-Tee pageant!! It's a shame you didn't come out, I would've bought you a PBR or five. My time at the Buzz then Project 961 was fantastic! I honestly don't believe there is a better group of people to work with than the staff of Clear Channel Atlanta. The guidance of Scott Lindy and Melissa Forrest is simply amazing. Not to mention the Project Family, the ONLY reason I have the vision of successful Programming I am taking with me to X101.5 is due to the brilliant minds of Chris Williams, Aly Young, Tom White and Chelsea Schmidt. I did start my career at 99x (as an intern under Chris as well) so it's kind of fitting that I start my career as "the boss" at another X, one in which I can see my own visions come to fruition
Good news is Project is actually seeking a live, local DJ to replace jock.
This is the ad on All Access:
Looking for a night-time rock star to host 7-Mid on WKLS-Atlanta, Project 9-6-1. Our last night jock made it 4 years and parlayed his experience in Atlanta into his first PD gig, so now we're looking for the next member of the Project Family. Dynamic on air personality is required (I hope that's obvious). By dynamic I mean unpredictable, with a touch of the absurd. I need more than just that a 7 to midnight personality, however. Are you a shameless self promoter, can your personality win over a live room, are you a beast when it comes to social media and can you contribute to the overall operation of the radio station day to day!? This isn't just a DJ shift, success will demand that you have all the tools of a 21st century entertainer to win. If you live loud and play hard both on and off the air, then you are an ideal candidate. I won't be entertaining applicants looking for their first radio gig, but if you have broadcast experience and this sounds like a challenge that you are ready to conquer, email your T&R or the link to your T&R to chris@project961.com. Clear Channel is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Here’s what Williams had to say about Knox:
No one I have ever worked with has invested more into learning their craft and contributing to an organization in such a short amount of time than Knox. My first experience with Knox was as one of my interns at 99X. That was a mere 7 years ago. In that time, Knox has poured himself into becoming an invaluable part of Project 9-6-1. From 8:30 each morning until Midnight each night, Knox could be found at his desk coordinating our intern program, managing our social media, and networking with all of the bands vying for a spot on Project Homegrown. Or, Knox could be found in a prod room helping write and create much of the imaging you hear on Project 9-6-1. Or, Knox could be found in the studio hosting the 7-Mid shift he's held since joining us when we were still 1053 the Buzz. Come to think of it, I'm not quite sure how we go about replacing Knox with just one person, he really has tackled the work of two or three!
