To no surprise, Lifetime has given “Drop Dead Diva” a second season and will be back in Peachtree City next year. The network leaked the news to Hollywood Reporter.
The show has done well, averaging 2.7 million viewers a week after six episodes. That’s not quite up there with Lifetime’s top show “Army Wives,” which averages about 3.8 million viewers. And “Project Runway,” which debuts tonight, will likely eclipse “Drop Dead Diva” in audience size as well.
Your take on "Drop Dead Diva" so far
- Fun show with plenty of personality
- Too whimsical for its own good

But for Lifetime standards, 2.7 million is plenty good enough. The dramedy features breakout star Brooke Elliott as a model who dies and ends up in the body of a plus-sized lawyer (plus sized at least by Hollywood standards.)
The show's biggest name among its regulars is comedienne Margaret Cho, who stayed in Little Five Points on weekends and was all over town during the four months of shooting. "Diva" just wrapped season one last week in studios at Falcon Field.
The whimsical "Diva" has already drawn a bevy of famous guest stars. This past Sunday's episode, which drew a series high 3.1 million viewers, featured Elliott Gould, Jorja Fox ("C.S.I.") and (cross promotion alert!) Tim Gunn of "Project Runway" fame. Future guests include Paula Abdul and Liza Minnelli. Rosie O'Donnell, who was already in one episode, will be back later in the season.
“Diva,” which received mostly positive reviews out of the gate, will tape 13 more episodes next year.
Executive producer Josh Berman (who also does work for "Bones" and "CSI," to name few) said he was thrilled and gratified when the show got the official renewal but he couldn't celebrate too much: he still has post-production work to do on the final three episodes of this season, set to air next month.
