Late Captain Herb Emory has a bridge dedicated to him

Captain Herb Emory, who died last year from a heart attack after a long run as a popular WSB Radio traffic reporter, had his name dedicated to a bridge not far from his former home in Douglas County.

The Lee Road Bridge, over I-20 in Douglas County, became the Captain Herb Emory Bridge Saturday during his annual Toys for Tots charity drive and bike ride.

"A nice ceremony," texted "Smilin'" Mark McKay, a WSB traffic team reporter. "Set the perfect tone right in the middle of the Toys for Tots event."

Emory spent more than 40 years in Atlanta radio, including 22 on News 95.5 and AM 750 WSB. He became a beloved figure in town and passed away while helping out at an automobile accident. He was 61.

In July, Gov. Nathan Deal and other state leaders dedicated the Ga. 400-Interstate 85 interchange as the “Captain Herb Emory Flyover Ramp.”  Here’s the WSB-TV story at the time:
