I have listened to bits and pieces of the Elvis Duran morning show when I’ve visited New York over the years but now we in Atlanta get to hear him every day on Groove 105.7 thanks to the magic of syndication. He will air from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

He debuted this morning at 6 a.m.. Early observations: the show is very high energy, and there are a lot of different voices to differentiate. He told me there are four core people (he, Carolina Bermudez, Danielle Monaro, John T. Bell) but he also had at least three others on the air that hour: Greg T, Skeery Jones and Froggy. Carolina has a higher voice than Danielle so it's not too difficult to discern who is who among the women. But the guys? Clearly, Elvis dominates but it's hard to figure out at first who is who otherwise, though Elvis does go out of his way to identify the secondary players before they speak.

Elvis, whose voice sounds a bit rough as he recovers from a cold, welcomed Atlanta to the fold at least three times hour one. And he mentioned that Froggy  is, in fact,  in Atlanta today. (The show also debuts on Q107.3 in Columbus). He aired several calls hour one but none from Atlanta. He did take a caller from Columbus at 7:11 a.m.. The show hits many topics in a short period of time. During hour two, the show gabbed about Facebook and how often men think about sex, plus aired its first "phone tap" prank of the day.  He was wise enough to make sure he mentioned the contact number (1-800-242-0100) numerous times.

Other quirks: The show “wished diarrhea upon you” for a caller who was peeved her grandma’s $96 Atlantic City casino voucher was swiped. And they like to say “Hiyo!”

Like the Bert Show, this group likes to talk. (But I have to admit, the energy is distinctly different from the Bert Show despite surface similarities.)  The Groove, which doesn’t have that many ads, did squeeze in six songs the first hour. There was a gossip segment, a “weird news” bit and a daily astrology report. Topics Elvis talked about include spanking (good or bad?) and the cold weather’s effect on orange juice prices down the road.

6 a.m. Justin Timberlake: “Rock Your Body”

6:02 a.m. Justin is cut off abruptly for the intro to the Elvis show, which includes goofy voice bits. “We have to welcome some new friends to the show — first of all, Atlanta’s new 105.7 the Groove,” Elvis said.

6:03 a.m.: Dee-lite “Groove is in the Heart”

6:06 a.m.: Again, the song is cut short. Elvis clearly says something about the song that he did special for Atlanta. “You’ll hear lots of mistakes,” Elvis said, jokingly adding, “That’s what we’re about!” He then introduces each person on the show, who tries to say something interesting. John T. Bell mentions that New York Yankee Derek Jeter is engaged. Danielle notes that AJ of the Backstreet Boys and Michael Buble did the same over the weekend. Froggy said he’d like to go into porn. Skeery lost expensive gloves. Carolina visited married friends with kids and hated it. “I drank heavily and will not be invited back for a long time,” she said.

6:10 a.m. Elvis wishes diarrhea upon the person who swiped a caller’s grandma’s $96 Atlantic City voucher.

6:11 a.m Traffic, sponsored by State Farm

6:12 a.m.: Ads for HSDD (a medical condition in which women lose desire for romance), H&R Block and Wal-Mart, followed by a Groove promo for an ice skating night at Centennial Olympic Park Wednesdays.

6:14 a.m. Black Eyed Peas – “I Gotta Feeling”

6:18 a.m. Britney Spears “3″

6:20 a.m. The song gets cut off. They talk about the No. 1 film “Avatar,” the Conan/Leno mess, then the cold weather causing iguanas to fall out of trees in Florida. Then they debate spanking, taking calls, all pro spanking.

6:30 a.m.: Astrology report, then a promo to give away tickets to Hollywood for the VH1 Critics Choice Awards.

6:33 a.m. Ad break: Jillian Michaels’ 14-day cleanse kit, Your Baby Can Read books, Constant Contact Marketing

6:36 a.m.: The Glamorous Life – Sheila E.

6:39 a.m. Caught Up – Usher

6:43 a.m: Winner for the VH1 awards show.

6:45 a.m.: Danielle does her “sleaze” report, including talk about the new “Jersey Shore” Snooki haircut that’s becoming popular. “Long straight hair with a poof on top,” Danielle describes it. Elvis had watched the show all weekend and became addicted.

6:49 a.m. Another welcome to Atlanta. Then Elvis keeps expectations low. “You’ll hate us at first. That’s what 9 out of 10 people say.” Froggy, in Atlanta, notes that he has a friend there excited to hear him. He warned her that “it’s an acquired taste.”

6:50 a.m. Elvis describes the latest in adult toys, including Roxy the Robot, a synthetic skin female for $7,000 to $9,000. “If you have someone say yes to you all the time, ” Danielle noted, “that’s a bargain.”

6:54 a.m.: John T. Bell’s stupid news, which includes a man who sneezed hundreds of times a day until a doc discovered he was allergic to his wife. Then they take a call from a gal who is moving to New York from Miami because Miami has no single straight guys. The New Yorkers on the show say it’s not much better up there.

6:58 a.m. traffic. HSDD study ad.

6:59 a.m. “Halo” – Beyonce.
