Veteran morning host Dallas McCade has decided to step down from the Kicks 101.5 morning show.

Cadillac Jack, her long-time co host, said a new morning team will be announced Thursday. He will remain off the air today and tomorrow. (UPDATE on Thursday: CJ Lusk and Ali Mac are joining the morning show.)

McCade will remain at the station as music director and will take over mid days.

In a press release, McCade said: “This is a huge honor for me to be able to apply my passion for country music in a capacity that helps Kicks 101.5 serve the country audience in Atlanta and all of North Georgia. I will dearly miss Cadillac Jack and the fun we have had for many years in the morning. A position like this doesn't come along every day and it was an opportunity I could not turn down.”

McCade, who got her first job in radio at age 13 in Alabama, has been on Atlanta airwaves since 1989. She worked for many years as a morning host on Y106 (then Eagle 106.7) with the late great Rhubarb Jones, who passed away suddenly earlier this year. After Eagle changed format in 2008 to oldies, McCade was moved to Kicks to co-host with Cadillac Jack. The pair have been a team for nearly a decade.

She told Atlanta Woman magazine a few years ago how tough it is to be a woman on radio: "A lot of women work for a while and then have a family.

I made the call years ago to have a career and not children. You don’t get normal ‘mom’ hours in radio. I understand that this is a radio business and now being run by conglomerates. That’s a big change. I’m very aware that I have to keep the listeners happy, and if I don’t, they sure as anything will find someone else.”
