This is a story line that is even thinner than Todd Chrisley's bank account but typically preposterous: the Chrisleys apparently can't find a decent hair stylist in all of metro Atlanta.
Where do they go? Los Angeles.
Todd's hair does look like he aspires to be Ryan Seacrest. He clearly spends a lot of time on grooming.
The big "tension" point? Savannah wants her hair cut. Todd doesn't like that idea.
They use the haircut idea as an excuse for a family vacation. Todd rents a beach house on Malibu with a private chef.
"Chrisley Knows Best" is structured like a sitcom. Each character's most notable foibles are highlighted and there's a "lesson" at the end of the half hour.
So we learn yet again that:
1) Todd loves his kids fiercely to the point of excess: He hates change. He kvetches when Savannah gets her hair cut. He is dumbfounded when he hears Chase got a tattoo. He is annoyed his mom went off to Palm Springs and wouldn't say what she did. Typical quip about Chase: 'I want you to keep that temple pure. Pure in every sense."
2) Chase wants to be independent at age 18 but is kinda dumb and clearly isn't ready for primetime: He isn't sure Malibu is off the Pacific Ocean and argues with his sister. "You don't know your geographics," he said, as if he were the second coming of Porsha Williams. He tries to get a tattoo but wimps out. He wants to rent a fancy sports car but he isn't 25.
3) Savannah is growing up: Her new hair style (courtesy of Jose Eber in Beverly Hills) adds several years to her look but she remains ever chipper and sweet.
4) Julie, the wife, is the empathetic, tolerant wife: She wicks off whatever Todd says with an eye roll and a shrug. She trusts her kids and doesn't sweat the small stuff.
5) Faye is a carouser: She is totally game renting the fancy Stingray convertible on Chase's behalf, then kicking him out to do her own share of partying, grandma style.
6) Grayson is cute and adorable.
Trite lesson learned: The kids are growing up fast and you better enjoy them while you have them.Todd tells his kids they need to make their own mistakes but he'll always be there for them.
RATINGS
The show opened at much higher ratings than season one (1.6 million overnight) but has slipped back the past couple of weeks. Chase's 18th birthday dipped to 1.25 million while Todd's anger management issues bounced back up last week to 1.42 million.
BY THE WAY...
This show is identified as episode eight. Where is episode seven? It's airing next week. They are doing these out of order, I fathom, though we'll probably be able to tell if that's the case based on Savannah's hair. In the next episode, Chrisley makes Savannah and Chase get summer jobs.
