Shon Gables is now officially a permanent primary evening anchor for CBS46,  effectively replacing Sharon Reed.

Reed departed in May after a tumultuous four years at the station and has not yet picked up a new broadcasting gig.

The station has a second evening anchor position open since Thomas Roberts recently departed after just 14 months.

"Shon has been in the chair all summer and has done a terrific job," said news director Steve Doerr in an email to staff. "Our shows have never looked better and her digital footprint is among the best in the market." He also lauded her work ethic and leadership abilities.

Gables, who had previously worked in Shreveport, LA as an investigative reporter and anchor, came to Atlanta early last year after Amanda Davis suddenly passed. She started as an early morning host but was moved to afternoons a year ago, swapping spots with Tracye Hutchins, who came to CBS46 in 2007 and spent most of her time in Atlanta on mornings.

Gables has also worked at stations in New York, Dallas and Detroit.

Before Reed, CBS46 had Stephany Fisher as female evening anchor from 2003 to 2015. Fisher is now a MARTA spokeswoman.
