Brian Moote, who left Q100's Bert Show last month after two years, debuted today on a new Los Angeles morning show The New Guys. (You can hear it on the Radio app.)
The top 40 station AMP 97.1, which used to air Carson Daly, brought in Brian, Edgar Sotelo and Chelsea Briggs. The station is owned by Entercom, which also runs Star 94.1, V-103 and 92.9/The Game in Atlanta.
"We are not famous," Edgar declared soon after 6 a.m. EST.
"We are famous adjacent," Brian cracked.
Brian, who grew up in Washington state, went to college in Los Angeles and began his stand-up career there. He had not intended to leave Atlanta but the opportunity to go back to the West Coast in the No. 2 radio market and be part of his own morning show was too enticing.
Edgar, who emigrated to Los Angeles from Mexico at age five with his parents, is the point man on the show. He has worked at stations in San Francisco, Dallas and New York. "We weren't financial stable but I didn't know it," he said, about his childhood. "We had family, hope, unity, faith and God. When you come to this country, great things can happen when you try. I learned English by listening to English language radio stations."
Chelsea is from Detroit but moved to Los Angeles eight years ago. She has been doing red carpets and entertainment for HollywireTV and Billboard News. This appears to be her first radio gig. "I'm so grateful to be here," she said.
They tried to get their first "fans" on the phone, which wasn't easy on day one of a new show. They did epic Valentine's Day failures. And Chelsea did the Hollywood report because for some reason, the female on the show always seems to end up doing that.
Brian mentioned his Atlanta girlfriend Jessica visiting him and how they went to Lisa Vanderpump's restaurant SUR. When Lisa saw them, she told Brian not to lose her, that she's a real find.
