FX is finally bringing back Donald Glover's critically acclaimed "Atlanta" in January 2021 for a third season. A fourth season is also planned for the fall of that year.

Season two aired in the spring of 2018 so the gap between seasons two and three will exceed two and a half years.

During the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif. on Thursday, FX chairman John Landgraf said 10 episodes will air in early 2021 and eight more in the fall.

He said not all of the seasons 3 and 4 will be shot in metro Atlanta and some of it will shoot outside the U.S..

This distinctive Emmy-winning series is very much Glover’s baby and he’s been awfully busy, preventing him from focusing on “Atlanta.” Besides his music career as Childish Gambino, he has worked on “The Lion King” and an Amazon Prime Video special “Guava Island.”

“As long as Donald wants to make more ‘Atlanta,’ I’m down for that. But it’s his choice,” Landgraf said.

The show has also elevated the careers of Glover's co stars Brian Tyree Henry and Lakeith Stanfield.
