The Weather Channel invited me earlier this month for AMHQ on the road for a camping trip and a bit of L.L. Bean cross-promotional action featuring Jim Cantore and Sam Champion.

Earlier this year, they paired their two biggest Atlanta-based names on the morning show. Their different styles and personalities were in full force at Red Top Mountain State Park in Cartersville.

They were guided by "Fat Guys in the Woods" co-host Creek Stewart and discussed the latest camping trends with an L.L. Bean expert. Before the cameras rolled, they put up camp tents, made a fire and cooked hot dogs and S'mores. The camera crew arrived at 4 a.m. to shoot "AMHQ." I arrived at about 8:30 a.m. for the final 90 minutes of the show.

The night before, Cantore roughed it by trying to sleep in a hammock and getting very little shut eye. Champion chose a fancy tent with an inflatable mattress and slept like a log. Cantore guzzled "cowboy" coffee while Champion used an espresso machine. "I'd drink this over Dunkin' Donuts coffee,' Cantore said.

Cantore teased Champion about his snoring and his Taj-Ma-Tent.
