Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black is one of three Georgians named recently to Donald Trump's new agriculture policy advisory council and the two-term Republican said Georgia farmers need Trump in the White House.
"Making rural America great again, too, is a part of his plan," said Black, who joins former Gov. Sonny Perdue and state Sen. John Wilkinson, R-Toccoa, on the advisory board.
Trump's campaign said the panel will offer ways to "strengthen our nation’s agricultural industry as well as provide support to our rural communities."
The help can't come soon enough, Black said, adding that there are two major reasons he is supporting Trump. One is the future of the Supreme Court and the other is "reigning in" the reach of the federal government.
"We have a much better chance of having the type of Supreme Court I believe we should have if Donald Trump is making the nominations," he said.
As agriculture commissioner, Black said he's watched as Washington dictates new regulations and rules for farmers, their suppliers and their customers. Much of it is unnecessary, he said.
"It’s just been a near-exponential growth in their involvement in everyone's daily life," Black said. "There are many places in agriculture where that’s true. We’ll have far more the same if Mr. Trump is not elected."
