This afternoon, the National Rifle Association released its scorecards in Georgia's state and federal races.

In the 3rd District race for Congress, state Sen. Mike Crane, R-Newnan, one of seven GOP candidates to replace U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, won the coveted scarlet "A" rating. As a member of the Legislature, Crane had the voting record. Three other Republicans -- Drew Ferguson, Chip Flanegan, and Jim Pace, received "A" ratings based on answers to a questionnaire.

Otherwise, the gun group gave its best marks to Republican congressional incumbents.

State Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver, D-Decatur, won an “F” rating for her proposal of an assault weapons ban. Amid all those endorsements, in fact, only one Democrat received an “A” grade from the NRA.

That went to former DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones, who is attempting a return to the state Capitol. He’s one of three Democrats candidates for the House District 91 seat now held by Dee Dawkins-Haigler, who is making a bid for state Senate.
