David Perdue: Republican unity needed, no matter the nominee

Sen. David Perdue is preaching Republican loyalty when it comes to the party's presidential nominee, but the freshman also indicated that leaders can't ignore the supporters of Donald Trump.

Without mentioning the billionaire by name, Georgia’s junior senator indicated that the party’s efforts to counter Trump— criticizing him or rolling out endorsements for his competitors — won’t work with frustrated voters who feel abandoned by elites.

“People know already that they’re disenfranchised, they know they’re frustrated with Washington, and I don’t think any endorsements or criticisms are going to change that. This is a movement, if you will, about people who are disenfranchised saying ‘hey, listen to us,’ ” Perdue told Political Insider Thursday.

Perdue said he doesn't plan on endorsing any of the Republican presidential candidates, but our friends at Roll Call report that Perdue said he would "absolutely" support Trump if he's the party's nominee.
