A song by an Atlanta artist helps to set the tone in the trailer for “Race,” a movie about Olympic gold medalist Jesse Owens.
“Race” tells the story of four-time gold medalist Jesse Owens. The athlete competed in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany amid the Nazi regime and racial turmoil in America.
The hook from Raury’s “Devil’s Whisper” is featured towards the end of the movie's trailer, starting at 1:43 (see above). The lyrics “you better run, run from the devil” play into the film’s track and field focus.
Raury, a Tucker High School graduate, is signed to Columbia Records. Shortly after graduating in 2014 he was chosen as the opening act for one of Outkast's homecoming shows at Centennial Olympic Park. That year he also released an EP, "Indigo Child." The free project featured the viral single "God's Whisper."
Raury released his debut album “All We Need” in 2015. “Devil’s Whisper” is featured on the project.
The song isn’t the only tie Atlanta has to the film, in theaters Feb. 19.

Stephan James is no stranger to taking on historic figures. The actor played civil rights icon U.S. Rep. John Lewis in the 2014 Oscar-nominated film “Selma.”
He trained for “Race” while filming “Selma” in Atlanta.
