11 Georgia players in Super Bowl; see list of 200+ through history

Eleven former Georgia high school players are on active rosters for Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Panthers and Broncos.

That’s the most from Georgia since Super Bowl XXXIII, when the Falcons (eight Georgia players) made their only appearance and lost to the Broncos (four).

Seven of this year’s Georgia Super Bowl players play for the Panthers. They are Cam Newton (Westlake), Fernando Velasco (Jefferson County), Thomas Davis (Randolph-Clay), Charles Johnson (Hawkinsville), Chris Scott (Lovejoy), Mike Tolbert (Douglas County) and Kyle Love (North Clayton).

Two other Panthers are inactive. Stephen Hill (Miller Grove) is on injured reserve, and Marcus Ball (Stephenson) is on the practice squad.

Active Broncos players from Georgia are Demaryius Thomas (West Laurens), Juwan Thompson (Woodward Academy), Bradley Roby (Peachtree Ridge) and Max Garcia (Norcross).

There have been more than 200 former Georgia players in all 50 Super Bowls, and the numbers are increasing. There were only 11 in the first five, including Bill Curry (College Park) - Georgia's first Super Bowl Champion from the Green Bay Packers - three times.

Here is a list of former Georgia players in the Super Bowl. These are players who were on active rosters for those games. (Maintaining an accurate list that includes those on injured reserve or practice squads is not feasible because that data does not exist for every season.)

This list includes 143 different players, but 209 lines, to accommodate those who have played in multiple Super Bowls. A former Georgia player has played every Super Bowl to date except Super Bowl II (Packers vs. Raiders).

Please post suspected omissions, but remember the criteria - Player must have been on an active roster for the game.
