Blessed Trinity shortstop C.J. Abrams on Thursday was named the Gatorade state baseball player of the year for Georgia.
Abrams hit .431 with three home runs, 42 runs scored and 27 RBI and helped lead Blessed Trinity to a Class AAAA semifinal finish and a top-50 national ranking in several polls.
Abrams is the second-ranked high school senior prospect nationally, according to Baseball America and Perfect Game, and is projected by many to go in the first round of the June MLB draft. He has signed to play at Alabama.
“C.J. Abrams is a special talent,” said Donnie Branch, head coach at LaGrange High head coach. “He has great speed and agility and is an outstanding bunter, but has a short powerful stroke as well. Everything he does looks very easy.”
The award recognizes baseball ability and high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character. A devoted parishioner in his church community, Abrams has volunteered locally on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, CURE Childhood Cancer and as a youth baseball camp counselor.
