"The Last Full Measure," with Samuel L. Jackson, William Hurt and Peter Fonda, will film in downtown Atlanta near the Georgia State Capitol building on Friday. Parts of some roads will be closed during the filming; see the map below for details. Sam posted the photo above on his official, public Instagram account.
The movie, also with Diane Ladd, Christopher Plummer and Alison Sudol, is based on the true story of Airman William H. Pitsenbarger, portrayed by Grant Gustin. The movie also has filmed at Sweetwater Creek State Park and the Paulding County Airport.
Plot, per imdb: "34-years after his death, Airman William H. Pitsenbarger, Jr. ("Pits") is awarded the nations highest military honor for his actions on the battlefield. One of the great untold stories of the Vietnam era."
The production company sent this alert to businesses in the area with details on the streets that will be affected:
- FULL CLOSURE of Trinity Ave SW, between Washington St SW and Memorial Dr SW (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
- South sidewalk of Trinity Ave SW, between Washington St SW and Memorial Dr SW (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
- North and South curb lanes of Trinity Ave SW, between Central Ave SW and Washington St SW (12 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.)
- East and West curb lanes of Washington St SW, between Mitchell St SW and Memorial Dr SW (12 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.)
It's not clear exactly where the filming will take place, but the new Liberty Plaza across the street from the Capitol seems like a possibility.
Pitsenbarger's uniform and an exhibit about his life is on display in the Southeast Asia War Gallery at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio. Here's his story, according to the museum:
