Bobbi Kristina Brown, who died Sunday, nearly six months after the medical emergency that sent her to the hospital, long-term care and finally hospice, is "finally at peace in the arms of God," a family spokesperson said.

"We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months," said family representative Kristen Foster, the Associated Press reported.

Bobbi Kristina, 22, was the only child of the late Whitney Houston and singer Bobby Brown.

ET reports that Bobbi Kristina's funeral will be held in Atlanta and that she will be buried in New Jersey, next to her mother.

Bobbi Kristina's untimely death tees up possible legal action. While she remained hospitalized,  her court-appointed representative has sued her one-time companion Nick Gordon, alleging physical violence and financial impropriety.

The Roswell Police Department initially responded after Bobbi Kristina, then 21, was found unresponsive in a bathtub on Jan. 31. The department has released little information about the subsequent investigation and did not respond to recent AJC queries regarding whether any charges were anticipated.

Tension among some of Bobbi Kristina's family members continued to swirl while she was in hospice care.  At one point someone supposedly took a photo of the incapacitated young woman and tried shopping it to celebrity media outlets, spurring outrage among her relatives.

The family has had little to say publicly in recent weeks. Her father, Bobby Brown, performed a July 4 concert in Atlanta. He apologized for forgetting lyrics and alluded to the ordeal but didn't mention his daughter specifically.

The family announced Bobbi Kristina's passing in a short and somber message Sunday night: "It is hard to say goodbye. On Sunday, July 26, Bobbi Kristina Brown made her transition peacefully. The family thanks everyone for their loving thoughts and prayers. As Bobbi Kristina would say: “The wind is behind me and the sun is in my face.”
