At Tuza Taco, a new taqueria in West Midtown, simplicity reigns supreme. When you order at the counter, you'll have a choice of just three appetizers and seven tacos. Of those tacos, the aptly named Classic is exactly what it sounds like: a hard-shell taco made with beef, shredded lettuce and cheese.
When a dish is as simple as Tuza’s Classic, there’s nowhere for bad components to hide. And, while the taco’s filling is excellent, with its richly flavored ground beef and crispy lettuce, it’s the homemade shell that makes all the difference.
All the tortillas at Tuza are made in-house, and while every taco benefits from them, none is elevated more than the Classic. The gluten-free corn tortilla is thick, crispy and crunchy, with a mild, tangy flavor. There’s no mistaking it for a packaged product — freshness can’t be faked.
Not only does the excellent hard taco shell complement the beef taco filling, it’s fun to eat. With a touch of Tuza’s homemade hot sauce, which can be found on every table, the tried-and-true combination can become downright exciting. It’s an excellent reminder of why the classic beef taco is simply that: a classic.
