There are tons of great breweries in metro Atlanta -- and plenty more to come -- but only one is in the running for Best New Brewery in the U.S., according to one poll.
Scofflaw Brewing Co., which opened in July 2016 , is in the running for the title as part of USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice travel awards.
Co-founded by Matt Shirah and brewmaster Travis Herman, Scofflaw has made a name for itself with its IPAs and stouts, and was named one of the country's best new breweries of 2016 by Beer Advocate and Paste Magazine.
“The fact that this vote brings more attention to our city and state’s craft beer movement is one of the things I like about it,” said Shirah in an email. “It’s about beer destinations."
Through March 13, people can choose from 20 breweries in 14 states that opened in the past three years. Voters are allowed to vote once per day, and a winner will be announced on March 17. On the panel of experts who were involved in choosing the participating breweries is Atlanta resident Ale Sharpton, who has written for the Beer Advocate, runs the beer site AleSharpton.com, and produces the web show Cruisin' For A Brewsin'.
