The name Yumbii should sound familiar to most long-time Atlantans — the purveyors of Asian-inspired tacos cranked the engine of Atlanta’s first food truck back in 2010. Many other food trucks have come and gone since then, but Yumbii’s simple formula and truly excellent tacos have given it staying power. In 2017, Yumbii put down roots by opening a brick-and-mortar taco shop in the Brookwood Village shopping center, directly across Peachtree Road from Piedmont Hospital.

What’s unique about Yumbii is that it doesn’t serve each taco with individually selected toppings: most are served with the same Korean chili sauce and soy-sesame vinaigrette salad. This obviously simplifies things for a tiny food truck kitchen, but it also allows Yumbii to showcase its intensely flavored proteins.

The best of these is the Asian rib-eye beef, the original top-line taco choice. The beef is tender, sweet, spicy and savory all at once. The crunchy salad, with spicy-sour flavors from the chili sauce and vinaigrette, is an excellent complement for the richly seasoned rib-eye.

Though Yumbii serves its tacos in a building with a Buckhead address, you won’t pay an upcharge for the locale. A combo meal of three tacos and a drink costs just $12, or, for the same price, you can sub one of the tacos for the fantastic “famous” sesame fries.

Eight years on from its food-truck start, Yumbii’s permanent taco shop is a testament to finding success by keeping things simple.
