A cupcake chain that made a splash when it opened in Atlanta has left the city.

Sprinkles Cupcakes closed its first and only location in Atlanta in Lenox Square today, Tomorrow's News Today first reported.

A Sprinkles representative address the closure in a prepared statement:

“While we have closed our Atlanta location effective July 26, we are grateful to our always professional and courteous staff for their service and look forward to returning to this market. Thank you Atlanta for all the love and support. We have enjoyed being part of, and sharing our cupcakes, ice cream and cookies, with such a wonderful community. We hope to see you at our other bakeries and online as Sprinkles continues to grow and expand across the country.”

Sprinkles opened at Lenox Square in 2014, complete with a cupcake ATM which functioned like a cross between a cash machine and vintage automat window.

There are remaining Sprinkles stores in several states including Illinois, Florida, New York and California.

Pastry chef Candace Nelson, who opened Sprinkles Cupcakes in Beverly Hills in 2005, helped create the cupcake bakery craze that generated Food Network’s hit show “Cupcake Wars.”
